Why book a one on one wildlife photography workshop?

Unlike in group workshops where I would normally work need to spend my time across multiple participants, in a one on one workshop, my focus is solely on you and your photographic development. We will be able to concentrate on exactly what you want to work on and wish to achieve. From complete beginners to experienced photographers, I will tailor your workshop specifically to what works best for you.

Suggested Workshop Locations:

Below is a list of some of my favourite locations to find and photograph wildlife. I have extensive experience photographing at these locations, therefore I can provide the best possible opportunities to photograph wildlife.

  • Coodanup Foreshore, Mandurah - A lovely spot for sunrise shoots, with water birds aplenty!

  • Island Point, Mandurah - Such an incredible location - one of the best wildlife photography locations in the region due to its abundance and variety of bird species and quality of light over the still waters of the estuary.

  • Herdsman Lake - One of the best locations in the Perth metro area to find wildlife close to home. You may even be able to spot the elusive local Tawny Frogmouth family.

  • Bibra Lake -  An awesome place to photograph an array of water bird species, whilst situated right in the heart of the Perth metro area.

Can't make it to any of these locations or would prefer somewhere else? No stress - let me know and we can discuss other options!

What will I learn in the workshop?

The best part about the one on one workshop is that we get a chance to focus on the specific areas of photography that you feel you would like to improve or explore. We will have a chat before we head out so that I know exactly what aspects of photography you will be wanting to focus on.

This may include:

  • Learning about the essential gear and setup for wildlife photography.

  • Understanding crucial settings such as shutter speed, aperture and ISO in order to learn how they will affect the images you want to create. This knowledge will help you on your way to mastering manual settings and being in full control of your camera.

  • Composition tips and experimentation in order to create the best image in any scene.

  • How to work with light in order to create the photo you desire.

  • Tips on how to locate and work with wildlife without disturbing them.

Requirements/What to bring:

  • Transport to and from our chosen workshop location

  • Any snacks, water and medication that you may need for the duration of the workshop

  • A reasonable level of fitness is required as we will be walking and moving throughout the area on usually uneven ground in order to find and capture wildlife

  • recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes, long sleeved clothing, sunscreen, water, a hat, a yoga mat (or similar) if you want lay low and insect repellent.

  • For beginners, I would recommend having even just a basic understand of your camera - a quick read through the product manual will really assist you here.

Photography Equipment:

Photography equipment is not supplied. As a minimum, you need your own camera,  a telephoto lens (minimum 200mm focal length), memory cards and fully charged batteries.

A tripod would also be recommended in case we are camped out in wait for a long period of time, but not necessary.

Pricing and Booking:

$175 for a 3 hour session. In order shoot during the best light and to maximise animal activity, ideally the session will be held around sunrise or sunset.

We will proceed regardless of weather conditions, with the exception of consistent - heavy rain, or a severe & dangerous weather forecast.

Note that wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. The recommended workshop locations have been chosen due to their typical abundance  of wildlife as well as my experience photographing these areas. If there is little to no wildlife sighted on the day of your workshop, we can utilise props in order to demonstrate and practice photographic scenarios in a controlled environment.

Please ensure you can attend the workshop prior to booking. In the event of any last minute cancellations by the participant, you will be issued with a credit for another day and time that suits you. No refunds are available, unless the workshop is cancelled by the host.

To book your place, please send me a message expressing your interest in the contact me form and I will be in touch via email to lock in your place!
